Hot topic of taking the R out of RPG


  Yeah, the topic of "Taking the R out of RPG" is hot debated in Guild Wars 2 Guru for a long time. Here we'll go and see how players think about it:

  Some players insisted that we should take the "role" out of "Role Playing Game". They thought that the idea of different classes predates the holy trinity, and it really has its basis in pen-and-paper RPGs where you actually rolled your class and your attributes. There is the illusion of roles, but since everything is interchangeable, they aren't any real defining differences.

  Some may be able to do something better than others, but everyone can do the same thing. They feel that the lack of really different classes should take away from the team play of the game.

  How do you feel about the abandonment of specific classes being able to do specific things other classes can't do - which was a natural part of the old school pen and paper RPGs and which is lacking in GW2 gold? Do you think that it could still be fun, if not MORE fun, to have other classes do things that are inherent to their class only and still leave the healing the way it is in GW2?

  But others thought that RPG is mainly about the story and being able to adjust the character to your liking - to play a certain role. The Trinity system really kind furthered your role-playing as you could be this legendary DPS, skilled healer or an unshakable tank. In GW2 it's a blend of it all, but mostly DPS specs prevail. And they think that GW2 is just as good of an MMORPG as it would've been with the trinity setup but hey, it's a matter of preference.

  And they also not considered that a class's function in a combat group an element of the "R" in "RPG". This sort of class role exists in shooters, RTS and any game with some sort of team focus and/or class dynamic. Hell, even Angry Birds have combat roles as that. I disagree with our good OP on this level. It does fit in to an extent, but it's a little more than insignificant for me at least. They think that what is lacking from the classes is a deeper feel of playing the role they're supposed to be playing.

  However, I think that the rules are still useful in the game only they're not tied to a class in this game. That doesn't mean every class is the same, apart from its own identity and game mechanic class also has some differences. An elementalist are very adaptable having at their disposal many varied skills in any situation. Necromancers are masters of conditions, they can exploit the conditions of allies for greater effect, guardians are better at support, thieves are great at the hit and run tactics etc.. There is a small distinguishing factor between the classes but nothing major that forces players in a class because else they loose out.

  And gw2 takes the role out of roleplay, I think it gives it in the hands of the players to do with it as they choose rather than box them in specific stereotypical choices.

Guild Wars 2 update adds new quests, characters, & World v World adjustments


Guild Wars 2's ongoing "living story" series of escalating quests got a lot livelier yesterday with the launch of THE RAZING. Guild Wars 2 Tweak Guide

'Guild Wars 2' interview: ArenaNet on the future of Tyria

Patch, Server, Backbone, Guesting - what is it?


Since the last patch the Guild Wars 2 gold game has turned into somewhat unplayable. At first it was only the dragon events and we blamed the guests for the unbearable lag. Do me a favor & don't go claiming it is my PC. I have been playing the game since day one and I never had any issues like this on any meta or wvw event despite employing max gfx settings.

I angered the clerk in a clothing store today. She asked me what size I was and I mentioned actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I purchase a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential.

Any class you disliked at launch although take pleasure in now?


At launch i attempted a bit of every class & even if I played all of the BWEs i didn't know the combat strategy very well. Now months after release I have tried all classes to at least 30+ & have an infinitely better grasp of combat and combos & playing support.

Now is there any class you played at launch that did not click although now you love it?

For me it is conveniently mesmer. I have discovered so far this is most likely the most versatile, customizable, and enjoyable class of them all. The things I can do on my memser most of my alts would have no chance at all(at my skill level that is heh)...I've transformed my overall playstyle every 10 or so levels since I started playing it and closing in on 60 I have about 8 differn't builds I want to attempt once I open the last line of traits.

Also going the other way I genuinely enjoyed warrior at launch nevertheless honestly find them the most boring class of them al nowl.

My necro is getting more dull as I lvl. He got a substantial expand at lvl 30 and he has been spinning his wheels since (75 now). My warrior is 30and a wrecking ball with fun weapons and seemingly fascinating build choices. My 80 ranger is fun and has a nice variety of create possibilities. I def think the necro and engineer want a major fun injection of all the classes Ive attempted (havent attempted guardian or mesmer).

When I first started the Guild Wars 2 gold game I hated mesmer & levelled my elementalist to 80. Shortly after 80 I began to hate everything about elementalist & left the game for one or two weeks. After returning I although I would reroll a mesmer & see how it is, now I love the class and it has developed into my substantial. I attempted to get back on my elementalist after numerous months away and after a half hour hopped back to the mesmer.

Lunch with Colin Johanson


We got to see a horse in a number of Flame & Frost concept art & it got us thinking: Are we going to see mounts in Guild Wars 2?

Colin: That idea art piece for Flame and Frost [...] got put out with a guy standing subsequent or riding a horse & by the 2nd we got that put out, everyone stated "MOUNTS ARE COMING IN THIS RELEASE" and I was like "Noooo!". Thought art team, you can never do that again! I say, if we ever did do them, we would need to find something really creative and exceptionally uniquely Guild Wars 2 to make them fit in the Guild Wars 2 gold game, cause they do not honestly make sense in the world - travel is so easy, it does not genuinely fit.

Colin: Did you bring a sack?

PvP is on the blacklist [of our questions], so we figured you can not know adequate about that...

Colin: I play a large amount of PvP, though I hide so no one knows who it's. Trigger it would be really embarrassing for me to go there and lose all the time and have my name show up. I'd have real trouble with the leader boards that come out - my name would show up like ten thousandth out of ten thousand.

When are guild missions triggered?

Colin: This can often be up to you, you know, giving you a chance to kinda make a decision when the guild does stuff together. The guild leader, let's say, the officers basically get the chance to just kick off content constantly for everybody.

So, basically, what you are going to have is something like the little tick boxes in the guild panel as in, like, you can assign to a rank and, say, this individual can kick off a guild mission?

Colin: Yes, that's right.

A lot of us have little guilds, we don't have 500 members and some issues to resolve could prove quite hard. Are we going to see any collaboration mechanisms set in place?

Colin: Our hope will be that [collaborations] will kinda dynamically come out of this as kind of emergent gameplay. The bounties, for example, have exclusive tiers so there's a nominal tier that you could do - even little guilds can get those - you have got three employers in three zones so perhaps 10-15 individuals can do that, a modest guild, & you could pick which tier you need to kick off based on how a variety of men and women you've got online. Possibly 1 of the things that will come out of that is "our guild is going to do the tier three bounty which takes a lot more individuals to do, so let's get 3 guilds together and our guild will kick 1 off and you will help us do ours and then you'll kick one off and we'll help us do yours" and the three guilds all work together to accomplish [it]. I think that kind of emergent gameplay hopefully will come out of that for positive. We don't genuinely know what to anticipate just since it is so difficult to test internally to see what guilds are going to do [when all this goes] live. So, some of this really is going to [emerge] when we put it out and we are just going to see how guilds interact with it & what they do and then it will help us establish what other features & additions we've got to work on.

Will alliance [cross-guild] chat be implemented a number of time?

Colin: Something we can do that will help communication across communities is often necessary.

Is there any more functionality that's going to be added to the commander book?

Colin: Most definitely there will be, that is on the list of stuff that we aren't working on presently, yet down the road we certainly wanna make that more involved, [introduce] more stuff you could do as a commander. Something that you guys can think of that are really robust community supporting tools, those are the kinds of points that we would honestly want to do this year, [that would] just make it easier to play with other folks, coordinate other individuals. The more of them we can do, it is just better of the GW2 gold game.

February's State of the Game Accessible

Guild Wars 2 mandatory password alter starting February seven


For those players who set their password previous to the introduction of password blacklist checking on September 12, 2012.

As part of ArenaNet's ongoing battle against Guild Wars two account hacking, all players who developed a password preceding to the introduction of password blacklist checking on September 12, 2012, will be needed to enter a new password.

"Account security is a very essential topic for us" wrote Guild Wars 2 gold head of community Martin Kerstein.

"1 of the ways we shield your account is by generating a blacklist of passwords that have been used in the past by hackers to scan for accounts. As this blacklist has been exceptionally effective for protecting newly developed accounts, we have asked all our existing consumers to change their passwords.

"In fact, for those consumers with passwords selected before the introduction of blacklisting, we have displayed a red banner in the launcher for the past 3 months, encouraging (yet not requiring) a password adjust. Beginning on February seven, 2013, we will change it to a requirement.

"So, in case you are still utilizing a password that was chosen before the introduction of password blacklisting on September 12, 2012, you will want to opt for a new password."

There's no need to wait until February seven - should you are employing an old password then visit the account management web site to alter it today.

Guild Wars 2: How to Reset the Server Ranking


The makers of Guild Wars ArenaNet announced a rollback of the Server Ranking for WvW game. From 1 February fight the worlds again to placements.

In the official forum for Guild Wars 2 ArenaNet announced the team to a reset of the server rankings. This step was loud announcement become necessary because many Guild Wars 2 gold players decided to end the free world transfers out for new home worlds. The developers of Guild Wars 2 will use the rollback also be used to test the formula for calculating the votes again. Information about any adjustments to follow.

In the announcement for resetting the server ranking is also broken down, run like the reset is:

We phase out the current line-up opponents. Since the free transfers available during the first part of this inventory, were we do not want to count the new ranking.

If the installation on Friday 1st Expired in February, we present the final vote, and ranks in the forum. The new arrangement will be deciding the grouping of the next line-up, as usual.

After the start of the new structure on 1 February we will all reviews (as well as deviations and measuring volatilities) back behind the scenes.

ArenaNet Developer Livestream


On January 17th, programs designer Matt Witter,Guild Wars 2 gold game designer Jonathan Sharp, & lead content designer Mike Zadorojny will be hosting a livestream chat on Twitch to discuss the game's design together with chat about a number of topics present in the community. The stream begins at noon PST and, after a brief break, will continue at two pm for a Q&A session dependent on questions submitted on the official forums. Guild Wars 2: How bad is the "dead mid-level zones" problem?


Are most of the dynamic events doable solo if you happen to be the only one there?  Do there tend to be a few people there doing whichever events are active, but just not nearly as many as launch?  Or are you faced with having to skip most of the content if you don't go form your own group manually?

There's always a few people around. Like 70 - 80% of the DEs scale down to soloability. If you send a message out in zone chat when a larger DE is up, you can usually get a few to come rock it.

Late at night and early morning tend to be more difficult times to find people. This is also coming from someone on Jade Quarry which is a pretty darn populated server.

A good chunk of the events are soloable in this gw2 gold game. However there are a few events that will be displayed as "group" events such as slaying champion mobs, or the climax of a long DE chain. However if these events fail such as the final DE in the chain then the failure event chain kicks in.

All in all, I think there is very little you will miss out if you can't complete some events. Sure it may suck you can't complete the final chain, but I've never had issues with people rallying for the larger chains.
